As you may already know, Breast Cancer is a cause that is very dear to my heart. Sisu Lane is privileged to be supporting ‘Hey Cancer...F**k You’ book.

During this fundraiser every single cent donated through the sales of the book ‘Hey Cancer…F**k You’ will be used to create care packs for women going through breast cancer as a way to show support, connection, encouragement, and friendship during what is an extremely challenging and overwhelming time - creating support in the community for breast cancer patients. Both Elle and I both agree, that receiving something like this would have been so helpful and appreciated when we were battling BC.

“Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 at the tender age of 27 I was forced to learn, see, think and feel things I never thought I would over a lifetime let alone in a few short months. I was faced with the terror of my mortality, the trauma and the loss of both breasts and the trials of facing life with the fear of recurrence”

Elle Veitch, now 30 and two years in remission, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019, and like me, was just 27 years old. During this time she recognised the lack of open discussion and support around breast cancer, particularly for young women.

She spoke with women who were losing friends, family, and even spouses and partners because they either felt they couldn’t open up about the reality of the impacts their diagnosis had on their mental health, or they were denied the right to speak their truth because of the discomfort it caused other people.

Elle is a passionate advocate not only for the breast cancer community but has a strong moral compass for injustices in our community and she saw and experienced firsthand how toxic positivity and denial was impacting those who wanted and needed to speak about their experiences with breast cancer. This is how the idea of ‘Hey Cancer…F**k You’ came to be.

Elle has collated open letters from people around the world who have been diagnosed or impacted by breast cancer in one way or another as a way to give both women and men their voices back and a safe and supportive place to express themselves freely.

‘Hey Cancer…F**k You!’ Also includes a robust educational section for both the breast cancer community as well as anyone who may know someone going through breast cancer or anyone who would like to gain a better understanding of the many aspects of a breast cancer diagnosis.

The educational section has been written in a way that is a simple yet informative overview so as many people as possible can get a better understanding of what it’s like having breast cancer, what treatments and surgeries are available, how to do a breast check, mental health impacts, and support as well as what needs to be done to improve support and how you can help create that support so that we have better outcomes and fewer deaths from breast cancer.

It also includes a letter from the CEO of BCNA, Kirstin Pilatti, and contributions from medical professionals who work specifically in the breast cancer field including a Breast Care Nurse, Ann Morgan, and Radiologist Heidi Pulla.

‘Hey Cancer…F**k You’ has its very own mental health check-in section with space for you to write your own letter to breast cancer as well as a seven-week guided journal section and affirmations that have guided and supported Elle during her own experience that she has chosen to share with you in hopes of supporting you through your own path.
